Skill: 8th notes

We've seen whole notes, half notes, and quarter notes. There are shorter notes than these also, eighth notes, 16th notes, 32nd notes, and as short as you need. Here we'll be considering 8th notes, which are half as long as quarter notes. In common time they are half a beat in length. You can get a sense of them by counting 1&2&3&4&. They are shown on the staff by notes that are connected at the stems by a single beam. If 8th notes occur individually, they have a flag at the end of the stem.
